Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your Hilton Head vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the right Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Calm home with patio, enclosed yard, tennis court, golf courses, & heated pool has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
