Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking your Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Bright Condo with Full Kitchen, Shared Pools, Hot Tub, Beach Access, and More has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
