Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental home:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Nautical Dream at HHR 4323 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
