How to find the best vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • To get the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • To start, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Nautical Dream at HHR 4323 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
