Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to select the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Chic beach condo with direct beach access, on-site pool, & private balcony has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
