Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserve your rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. 463 Captains Walk is a gorgeous villa with breathtaking views of the ocean. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
