Strategies to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your Hilton Head vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Large Three Bedroom Townhome Close to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you crave, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
