Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To find the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Hilton Head rental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Golf course-view condo near beach with pool & private deck - dog-friendly has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, email or call the host before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
