Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to select the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Panoramic views of the inter-coastal waterway Broad Creek! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, contact the host before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Have a great stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
