Our top Hilton Head vacation rental tips:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To book the best rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing the perfectrental home:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Nice Two Bedroom Villa Located on the George Fazio Golf Course! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
