Rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your group agree to dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Stunning Ocean Views from this Beautiful Condo with Pool, On-Site Amenities! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Have a great stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
