Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Condo with Ocean View, Shared Pool\/Hot Tub, and Nearby Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
