Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Spectacular home located on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
