Our top Vacation rental home tips:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the best vacation home in Hilton Head:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Spectacular home located on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is right for your family.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
