Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your group select the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spectacular home located on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
