Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Tree-lined home with golf course views, large deck, grill, fireplace, W\/D, & AC has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
