Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Finding the best value:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book the best Hilton Head rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Spacious Home 2 Masters Golf \/ Lagoon Views (with dock) Ideal for Big Family has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is right for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
