Strategies for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best rental within budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose and book a perfect Hilton Head rental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Lovely single level Palmetto Dunes home with a pool and lagoon views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
