Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Large Two Bedroom Villa with Ocean Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
