Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Coligny Beach- spacious 3 bed condo super clean and close to everything Coligny! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
