Our top Rental booking tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Hilton Head rental:

  • To start, have your family decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. 507 Barrington Arms ~ 5th Floor Ocean Views from Beautiful 2br Villa! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email the property manager before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
